  • Sometimes life throws you a curveball

    21 Aug 2014 | 8:08 am

Our curveball? Photo Credit: Brady Withers via Compfight cc About two weeks ago, at 3am, we were woken by a phone call we’ve been dreading. Tony’s mom had fallen in the middle of the night. Would Tony go at once to the ER. Sure enough, Penelope, a strong Christian who has served the Lord faithfully all her life in China, Taiwan and[…]

  • Story is more powerful than you think

    15 Sep 2014 | 2:37 pm

I would like to invite you to be part of a new chapter in the house church movement. Much of the early days of this movement had been characterized by negative stereotypes and a drive to look backwards in time. Now people around the world have realized that this simple, organic way of doing church is the preferred way of[…]

HOW H2H SPENDS THE MONEY YOU GIVE!

H2H has all the usual “mundane” expenses for staff, phone, web services, professional help (CPA, lawyer), bank and government fees, and so on. These are necessary, but not “exciting.” Your help with these mundane areas through regular giving makes a huge difference!  Below are a few of the more exciting things that H2H has helped fund over the last few years.

  • International Training – H2H subsidizes travel for local simple church leaders to attend training and networking conferences within their own country. Money is usually given as matching funds to help those in very poor countries/areas.   It is always tied to carefully screened events.  Individuals helped in this way over the past few years came from Zambia, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ecuador, Kenya, The Philippines, Cameroon, Tajikistan, Nepal, The Russian Federation, India, Angola, Uganda, Malawi, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and The Republic of Congo.
  • Training Events – H2H has also provided financial help towards strategic church planting training conferences. Twice in recent years we have helped major international conferences hosted by the leaders of the massive church planting movements occurring across India.
  • Sending out Teachers – H2H provided matching funds to help cover travel expenses for international travel to do simple church training in countries such as The Philippines, Australia, Myanmar and Nepal.  We have also helped to cover local travel expenses for training in simple church planting movements for Africans from Kenya, Uganda, Cameron and parts of The Congo.
  • House Church Locator – For years, the “Holy Grail” of house churches was a way for those who have gatherings to connect with those seeking gatherings. The current map is the third generation tool that is the result of a great deal of work and money.  This is the most widely used tool on the H2H site and as such we would love to keep it both up to date and easy for all to use.
  • DVD Resources – The costs of creating the new Upside-down Leadership DVD was fully paid up front. This allows us to make the video available freely online, and with hard copies at a very low cost.  Money has also been given to help with a DVD looking at “So You Want To Start A House Church!”
  • Resources in other Languages – H2H is working with several groups to provide resources in Spanish, Russian, French, and other languages.
  • New Books – H2H has, on occasion, helped authors with publication costs and/or promotion to get important books into circulation.
  • Helping other Ministries – Because of its time in existence, connections, and recognition by the IRS, H2H is in a position to help other ministries in a variety of ways. We have worked to secure grants on behalf of other ministries, have helped with web sites, connected individuals and ministries, and worked to promote groups that are not well known.

How much goes to these types of projects? Below is the percentage of donations given to things like those listed above for the last four years. Additionally each of the above required money being spent on the more “mundane” costs of keeping H2H running.

2008 - 26%
2009 - 85%
2010 - 55%
2011 - 34%

Lower percentages are primarily a function of lower total donations for the year. Basic costs are about the same regardless of donations, so they account for more of the total in years with less giving.

Much of what we have done is in the form of matching funds. By doing this, we help those who show sufficient enterprise and responsibility to raise some money, and we ensure that those doing the work can take ownership. We will help them do it, but we won’t do it for them. This is a natural outgrowth of simple church “theology.” In other words, we will teach people to fish, and we will help them buy fishing gear – then they do the fishing.

Please help us to do all of this and more - we depend on your donations!
